Minis Spotlight: Lords of Madness

I picked up a box of WoTC's pre-painted plastic minis from their newly-released Lords of Madness set. I've slowed down in my minis purchasing, but this was purely an impulse buy at my FLGS Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove. I think the price is a bit steep of $22.00 for a box of 6 minis. Albeit you get one Huge mini, a Large mini, and four Medium sized minis. However, there is an appeal to the "Crackjack Box Toy Suprise" feeling I get from buying one. You just don't know what you are going to get.
From left to Right: Heroslayer Hydra (Huge), City Guardsman (Medium), Stone Giant (Large), Trapped Chest (or Mimic) (Medium), Rot Grub Swarm (Medium), Brain in a Jar (Medium).

I think I lucked out with this box, because I really did want the Trapped Treasure Chest and Brain in a Jar minis. And I got both in the same box! The chest can double as a Mimic. The Brain in a Jar i just think its cool because it reminds me of the Migo Brain Cylinders from H.P. Lovecraft.

  2. I used to shop at Brookhurst Hobbies all the time when I was going to CSULB, many moons ago. Good haul on the mini's, too.

  3. @edowar39: Did you live down in OC? CSULB is kind of a ways away from Garden Grove, if you lived in Long Beach and drove that far, that is dedication right there! :) Not sure how long War House has been around, but they are located in LB.

  4. @Christian: Yeah I'm happy about it. Its not so bad when you buy only a few boxes because the chances of getting multiples of a mini you don't like is less. A while back I bought a case of Savage Encounters minis. What was nice about that was I got one of every visible mini in that set and was pleased with the others. The nice thing about purchasing the case was that for the price I paid, it was like getting 2 boxes for free! I was disappointed I didn't get the Maralith mini though. Oh well.

  5. Brain in a Jar? Cool... I'll probably get some of these when they pop up on eBay. I like WotC minis, but typically I just buy them by the lot on eBay.

By the way, we live right around the corner from each other and should hang out some time... I'm next to the fairgrounds and TeWinkle park.

  6. @cyclopeatron: I was looking for some of the Skeleton D&D minis singles from this set. One website was selling the Brains in a Jar for $0.99/each. I couldn't find the Skeletons for a decent price. For a Common mini, one site was selling them for $2.00+ each. Thats a bit much.
